Air Force veteran praised for service to his country

Henry and Betty Dwenger of Lawrenceburg, Indiana, would like to recognize and honor their son, Darryl K. Dwenger, for his service in the United States Air Force. Darryl was born in Batesville, Indiana, and joined the United States Air Force on April 4, 1984. He served his country for 25 years and 8 months, retiring December 1, 2009.
He meet his beautiful wife Darlene while she was also serving in the United States Air Force at Hahn Air Base Germany. In December they will celebrate their 29th anniversary.
He duty assignments included: George AFB Ca - Aug 1984 - Feb 1988 as a Jet Engine Mechanic - F-4 Fighter Aircraft; Hahn AB Germany - Feb 1988 - Aug 1991 as a Dedicated Crew Chief - F-16 Fighter Aircraft; Eglin AFB FL - Aug 1991 - May 1994 as a Dedicated Crew Chief - F-16 Fighter Aircraft; Osan AB Korea - May 1994 - May 1995 as a Dedicated Crew Chief - F-16 Fighter Aircraft; Shaw AFB SC - May 1995 - July 2000 as a Dedicated Crew Chief - F-16 Fighter Aircraft May 1995 - July 1998 as a Quality Assurance Inspector - July 1998 - July 2000; Aviano AB Italy - July 2000 - May 2009 as a Flight line Expediter - July 2000 - July 2003, Quality Assurance Inspector - July 2003 - May 2004, Flight Chief - May 2004 - May 2006, Maintenance Operation Center Superintendent May 2006 - May 2007, Flight Line Maintenance Superintendent May 2007 - May 2009 all working the F-16 Fighter Aircraft; Mountain Home AFB May 2009 - Dec 2009 as a Flight Line Maintenance Superintendent - F-15 Fighter Aircraft.
During his Air Force career, he was deployed to the Middle East 11 times for a total of 52 months, serving his country during combat situations to the following locations: Air Expeditionary Force III (AEF III); Doha AB, Qatar, Operation Southern Watch; Prince Sultan AB, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia Shaikh ISA AB, Bahrain - two times; Ahmed Al Jaber AB, Kuwait Balad AB, Iraq; Operation Northern Watch, Incirlik AB, Turkey - five times.
During his service, he received the following metals: Meritorious Service Medal; Air Force Commendation Medal; Air Force Achievement Medal; Air Force Good Conduct Medal; National Defense Service Medal; Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal; Southwest Asia Service Medal; Iraq Campaign Medal; Global War On Terrorism Expeditionary Medal; Global War On Terrorism Service Medal; Korean Defense Service Medal; Air and Space Campaign Medal; NATO Medal.
Currently Darryl and Darlene reside in Reno, Nevada. They have three wonderful children and two awesome grandchildren. Darryl has many family members located in Dearborn and Ripley counties. He has five siblings who are very proud of his service to our country. We want to thank you, Darryl, for your service! We love you!
